Hall Place

Hall Place and Gardens

Hall Place (pictured above) is an illustrious Grade I listed country house built in 1537 for Sir John Champneys. He was a wealthy merchant and former Lord Mayor of London. The house is a rare example of its type, as much of the house that John built still survives today. Three apparitions haunt the house. The first is that of Lady Constance. She was married to Sir Thomas atte Hall, one time owner of the house. A stag in the courtyard killed him, a scene witnessed by Lady Constance. The distraught wife threw herself off the tower, and her ghost is said to walk the area. The second phantom is that of the Black Prince, whereas the third is the wraith of a distraught maid that frequents the attic.
